Dental implants are ideal for those who have lost a tooth due to injury, gum disease or some other reason. A dental Implant is a root device, usually made of titanium that is used to support restorations in order to replace missing teeth. Once the implant is placed in bone, the implant is allowed to fuse to the bone over a period of months. At this point, impressions will be made for a crown to fit over the implant. Dental implants are so natural-looking and feeling; you may forget that you ever lost a tooth.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are secured to a patient’s jaw through surgery, making it a more invasive procedure than other cosmetic dentistry methods. However the stability provided by a dental implant is long lasting and many patients find dental implants to be a convenient alternative to dentures.

Implants have a screw-like appearance and are secured to the jaw prior to the placement of an artificial tooth. The implant, when completed, will have a natural appearance and function like a natural tooth.

Types of dental implants:

There are many types of dental implants available at District Dental in Houston. Implants are categorized by the size of artificial teeth involved during the implant procedure.

Whole Arch Implants/All on 4: This type of implant is meant to replace a whole arch of teeth. It uses a total of eight posts to replace the upper and lower arches of the mouth. These implants are more stable in that each implant supports the weight of the others.

Multiple Implants: This implant replaces several teeth and is a suitable alternative to patients who would prefer not to be fitted for full or partial dentures.

Single Implant: A tooth loss from an accident or a certain dental disease can easily be replaced with a single dental implant. An abutment, or a post, will be placed first before the replacement tooth is attached to it.

How do I know if dental implants are right for me?

The process of receiving a dental implant is safe and normally achieved with very little pain or discomfort. Your District Dental dentist is specially trained to ensure that your implant procedure is as successful and convenient as possible.

What should I expect during my dental implant procedure?

The whole procedure is performed with the assistance of anesthesia to ensure that the patients are comfortable during the duration of the treatment. The implant is surgically placed in the bone socket where the missing tooth used to be and when this heals and fuses with the jaw bone, it will function as the tooth root. A connector post will then be connected to the implant and used to hold the artificial tooth, the crown, or the dental bridge that will fill the gap of the missing teeth.

The procedure takes several visits to our office in Houston to finish, but the results will be natural in appearance, function and are long-lasting.
